What is Zipderm?

Zipderm is a low-cost online consultation service for dermatologic skin conditions. Using best-practices established in the field of dermatology, we can make recommendations for your particular skin condition based upon your unique skin characteristics and qualities.

How does Zipderm work?

The process is easy. All you have to do is create an account. Log into your personal account. Answer a few questions and upload your photos. Within minutes you’ll get a recommendation for your skin condition and your prescription recommendations will be submitted to our specialty pharmacy for immediate fulfillment and delivery to your home once our provider reviews your case.

What does it cost?

We are trying to keep the cost as low as possible to make it affordable for everyone. For your personalized treatment recommendations, our medical provider review of your treatment plan, and direct submission of your prescription request to our specialty pharmacy for fulfillment, the cost is $30. The co-pay alone for a specialist can cost more than $30, but typically also with a wait!

Does the consultation cost cover the cost of my prescriptions?

Unfortunately, the consultation cost is only for the consultation. In order for us to keep the costs down, we do not cover the cost of prescription medications. We do, however, work with a specialty pharmacy which can deliver the necessary medications to you for significantly less than retail pricing. In fact, if you have commercial insurance, many of these medications will either be free or much less than retail pricing. If you do not have insurance or your insurance does not cover the medication, the cash pricing from the pharmacy is still significantly cheaper than what is available at retail pharmacies.

Who are Zipderm doctors?

Zipderm believes that the doctors are the ones who make our consultation service such an outstanding one. Therefore, we make it our priority to only employ the best doctors possible. Our Zipderm dermatologists:

  • Attended top distinguished United States medical schools (such as Harvard)
  • Board certified M.D.s
  • Experienced in treating many skin conditions

Is my information and photographs safe and private?

Zipderm is a secured site with security technologies in place to protect your information from unauthorized access. Any information you provide us (personal, medical, photographs,etc. ) are stored in an encrypted form on secure computer servers that is compliant with HIPAA. What medical conditions does Zipderm treat?

Currently, we are only treating acne. We will add on more skin conditions in the near future.

How long does it take to get my personalized recommendations for my skin condition?

Your personalized recommendation for your skin condition will arrive within minutes of you submitting your consultation. This is because we are using best-practice algorithms developed by a Harvard Medical School/MIT trained dermatologist.

How do I get my prescription medication?

We will have one of our medical providers review your recommendation and directly submit it to our specialty pharmacy for direct delivery to your home.

Who can request a consultation?

Anyone can request a consultation for recommendations for their skin condition. However, if you would like to have one of our medical providers review and submit a prescription on your behalf to our specialty pharmacy, you must be located in the state of California. We are looking to expand into other states as soon as we can. You also need to be 18 years or older or if you are under 18 years old, we will need consent from your parent or guardian.

Can I see and review my past visits?

All of your past consultation history will be visible under “Past Consultations.”


I forgot my password. How do I recover it?

  • Click on the "Forgot Password?" link located on the upper right corner of our homepage.
  • You will be directed to enter your email address and your temporary password will be sent to that email account.
  • In your account, you can change the temporary password to one of your choosing.

How can I change my personal information?

  • Log into your account.
  • On the top right corner, select “Account”.
  • Click on the information that you would like to change.


Do you take insurance?

One of the advantages of using Zipderm is that you receive services for less than the cost of a typical co-pay without the hassle of dealing with insurance. Hence, we do not accept insurance at this time.

What form of payments does Zipderm take?

Zipderm utilizes Stripe to provide a safe and secure place for you to use all major credit cards to pay for the consultations.


How do I take a proper picture?

As it is important to take a clear picture of your face, make sure you are in a well lit area with bright lighting all around. Use your camera in Selfie mode and stretch out your arms to get the best picture of your left and right profile and frontal face. The most important thing is to make sure the picture is clear and well lit.

Do I need to use a flash?

A photograph in a well-lit room without the usage of a flash would be ideal as the flash tends to blur the details and contours of the skin.

Do the pictures have to be a particular format?

We ask that your photographs be in JPEG format (xxx.jpg files) or GIF format (xxx.gif).

Error message says the photo size is too big. What do I do?

You have two options to make the file size smaller:

  • Use an editing program such as Photoshop:
    • In Photoshop, open the photo file (File à Open)
    • Go under File and press Save As
    • Make sure the format is set to JPEG and press SAVE
    • A JPEG options window should pop up. Under Image Options, switch Quality to Medium and Size to 14.4/28.8/56.6 kbps. Then press OK
  • Change the setting on your camera so that the photos are set to a lower resolution and retake picture.
